To be specific with when & who should be doing plyometrics. We will be talking about the last rehab phase of ACL Reconstruction. The last phase should be focused on preparing for return to sport. Jumping and hopping should be consecutive and performed in all planes of motion. Running and sprinting should be initiated and progressed to 100% speed with emphasis on cutting, pivoting, cut and spinning, and stop and go reactions. In the video Ryan dissects plyometrics in all phases of the rehab process. Now why would someone (post-surgery) incorporate plyometrics? Plyometrics elicits a variety of physiological adaptations

  • Increased in muscle size
  • May increase tendon stiffness and reduce energy dissipation
  • Increase neural drive
  • Enhance motor coordination
  • Improve storage and utilization of elastic energy

Plyometrics have a multitude of benefits especially on tendons. Again in the case of being post-op, you must be progressed into plyometrics. You can’t start jumping right away! Click the video to find out how to progress into jumping!
