WHAT DOES A TELEHEALTH APPOINTMENT LOOK LIKE?

With the onset/growth of digital healthcare, we wanted to give our iH family a glimpse into what they can expect during a virtual visit.

Sometimes, these visits can just be conversations and demonstration, making sure you are performing something correctly, or answering any questions you might have that you aren’t able to ask us in person any more. But for others, these are full movement and exercise sessions, guided by your Physical Therapist and consistent with your plan of care and rehab plan. While the hands on component will be missing, you can expect that we will be the same person on the screen that we are when we are in the clinic with you!

While every appointment is different, here is an example of what a virtual visit could look like:

1. Subjective Updates:

Similar to if you were seeing us in person, we’ll first chat and catch up, to see how everything has been going since your last appointment, and make sure nothing has changed. This is also the time we will discuss the flow of today’s appointment, and make sure we are both on the same page!

2. Demonstration:

Once we are both on the same page, its important to make sure that you’ll understand and perform everything to get the most benefit. We wil demo everything we;re going to have you do, and talk you through what to look for, and how to properly and SAFELY perform it.

3. Exercise:

Now is the time to get moving! Depending on the plan for the day, this could consist of self-mobilizations, stretches, and strengthening exercises. But we won’t just leave you out to dry. We’ll be right there watching, cuing, and making any adjustments as needed, just as if we were in the office together. Since we cant move around you like we would in person, we’ll most likely ask you to change your angle to the camera a few times to make sure that everything is moving how we want!

4. Recap:

Once the main part of the session is done, we’ll recap:

  • what was accomplished,
  • what we saw,
  • what we need to continue working on,
  • and most importantly how you did!

5. Questions:

This is arguably the most important. This is about YOU, so we will make sure that we can answer and/all questions you may have. If you forget something, or think of something after the appointment is over, we are always available for you to reach out and ask us.

6. Future Plan:

Before we say our goodbyes, we’ll make sure that we go over the any changes to your home program, when your next appointment is, and anything you want you to add/modify from now until your next appointment
